Park Young Ju

About Wol Ho

Park Young Ju was born in Korea on February 2, 1939.  Park is her family name and Young Ju is her first name.  In Korea, the last name comes first, followed by the first name.  Her artist name is Wol Ho which means “moon over lake”.

She is the second child in a family of 7 children.  Her family is very close.  In her time, not many women had the chance to go to university.  And if they did, it was for something “important” like becoming a doctor or engineer.  People thought her father was crazy and wasteful sending a daughter to university for fine arts.  But Young Ju knew what she wanted to pursue and her parents were supportive.

She married, had 4 daughters, immigrated to Canada, and ran her own businesses.  But she still found time to paint and teach painting to others.  Please go to the "Biography" subpage for more details.

In May 2016, she celebrated 30 years as a teacher and mentor with a Student Exhibition at the North York Arts Gallery in the Toronto Centre for the Performing Arts.  All her exhibitions are listed on the "Exhibitions" subpage.
